The Aussie Traveller’s Guide: How to Activate Your AussieRoam eSIM on Smartwatches & Tablets (2026)

Planning your next big trip from Brisbane to Bali, or Sydney to Sicily? Don't let a physical SIM card slow you down. While your phone is your main travel companion, activating an eSIM on your smartwatch or tablet is the ultimate way for Aussies to stay connected overseas without the hassle of swapping tiny plastic cards.

At AussieRoam, we help Australians ditch the "international roaming" bill shock. Here is your 2026 step-by-step guide to getting your secondary devices travel-ready before you even head to the airport.

1. Activating Your Travel eSIM on Smartwatches

Taking your Apple Watch Ultra, Google Pixel Watch or Samsung Galaxy Watch overseas? While most watches sync to your phone, a standalone AussieRoam eSIM lets your watch stay online even if your phone is in the hotel safe.

Apple Watch (Ultra 3, Series 11, & SE 3)

  1. Open the Watch App: On your iPhone, go to the Watch app.

  2. Cellular Settings: Tap My Watch > Cellular (or Mobile Service).

  3. Add a New Plan: Tap Add a New Plan.

  4. Scan Your AussieRoam QR Code: Use your iPhone camera to scan the QR code from your AussieRoam confirmation email.

  5. Activation: Once the profile downloads, your watch is ready for international data.

Google Pixel Watch & Samsung Galaxy Watch

  1. Wearable App: Open the Galaxy Wearable or Google Pixel Watch app on your phone.

  2. Mobile Plans: Go to Watch Settings > Mobile Network or Mobile Plans.

  3. Add Your Plan: Tap Add a new plan and select the option to scan a QR code.

  4. Complete Setup: Scan your AussieRoam QR code and follow the prompts to finish.

2. Activating Your Travel eSIM on Tablets (iPad & Android)

Whether you’re watching Netflix on a long flight or using Google Maps on a big screen in London, an eSIM on your iPad or Galaxy Tab is a game-changer for Aussies abroad.

iPad (Pro, Air, & Mini Models)

  1. Settings: Open Settings > Mobile Data.

  2. Add eSIM: Tap Set Up Mobile Data or Add a New Plan.

  3. Scan QR Code: Select Use QR Code and scan your AussieRoam voucher.

  4. Label Your Line: We suggest naming it "AussieRoam Travel" to avoid confusing it with your home plan.

  5. Enable Data Roaming: This is the most important step! Go to Cellular Data Options and toggle Data Roaming to ON.

Android Tablets (Samsung S10 Tab & Pixel Tablet)

  1. Connections: Go to Settings > Connections > SIM manager.

  2. Add eSIM: Tap Add eSIM > Scan QR code from carrier.

  3. Confirm: Once scanned, tap Add and ensure your tablet is set to use this eSIM for all mobile data while overseas.

Top Tips for Aussies Heading Overseas

  • Install Before You Fly: You can install your AussieRoam eSIM while still in Australia. It won’t "activate" its travel days until you land and connect to a local network overseas.

  • Switch Off Your Australian SIM: To avoid "Accidental Roaming" charges from your home provider, ensure your primary Aussie SIM has "Data Roaming" turned OFF, and your AussieRoam eSIM has it turned ON.

  • Battery Pro-Tip: Tablets use more data than phones. Keep an eye on your usage on your AussieRoam account if you're streaming high-def video!
